Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in St. Petersburg
One of the modern treasures of Russia has a long and illustrious history! The Lomonosov Porcelain factory originally named the Imperial Porcelain
Manufactory was founded in 1744 by Tsarina Elizabeth I, the daughter of Peter the Great. It produced some of the most beautiful fine bone
China which remains to this day some of the finest in the world.
The secrets of combing calcium phosphates with porcelain paste were
originally brought back from China by the Russian scientist, Dimitry Vinogradov. This complex man with a drinking problem attended the St.
Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1936 as a result of his accomplishments and his friendship with Russia's leading scientist, Mikhail
Lomonosov, Dimitry was awarded a trip to Western Europe to study abroad. Upon his return Vinogradov independently discovered the secret
of making porcelain and developed the technology for its manufacture.
The best news for those of you that take advantage of our trip of a lifetime is
that we have added a visit to the Lomonosov Museum where you will have an opportunity to purchase direct from the factory current patterns
of China plus new reproductions of some of the most beautiful pieces which graced the tables of the Tsars.
The renamed factory now known
as the Lomonosov factory is now managed by an American and the prices are going up but it is still not to late to buy a complete set of
China for a place setting of eight for under six thousand dollars. Dr. Donnelly is partial to the Cobalt Blue Net pattern that is very
popular in Russia. We hope to see you at the Lomonosov Factory soon to enjoy a very special day for those that love fine porcelain as much
as we do.
