Possibly the most prized section of the Hermitage - and definitely the most difficult to get into.
This spectacular collection of gold, silver, and royal jewels is well worth the hassle and expense of admission.
The collection is divided into two sections. The first section, covering prehistoric times, includes Scythian gold and
silver treasures of striking simplicity and refinement recovered from the Crimea, Ukraine, and Caucasus.
The second section contains personal items and gifts to the Romanov family - a dizzying display of precious stones,
jewelry, and such extravagances as jewel-encrusted pillboxes and miniature clocks, including a few items of Faberge,
all from the 16th through the 20th centuries.
Visit to the storage rooms and to the museum's repair and restoration workshops
The restoration department of the Hermitage museum dates back to the second half of the 18 century.
At first it consisted of Italian, French and German artists invited by Catherine the Great from Europe. Later in the 19 century
most of the restoration in the Hermitage was carried out by the graduates of the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts.
Our guests will have a unique chance to visit the restoration laboratory of the Museum where you will see the restoration
works in process and learn about the most famous and current restorations in the history of the museum.
