Obtaining a forklift licence is common practice in the construction, storage and manufacturing industries, and it is something that most employers will be looking for on your resume. If you haven't been able to find work or are just simply looking to upgrade your skillset, then getting a forklift licence can immediately make you more valuable as a prospective employee. Finding a nearby government-approved forklift training provider is quite simple in much of Australia, but what should you bring on these training days? Here are a few pieces of advice for you to ensure you get the most out of this program. 

Dress Code

While there is no strict dress code, there are a couple of dos and don'ts when it comes to your forklift licence training days. Enclosed shoes and well-fitting pants are definite requirements for safety reasons, but apart from that, you should also bring a few top layers. You may be going in and outside quite frequently, and the last thing you want to do is be shivering during a practical test. Layering your outfit with a t-shirt, jumper and maybe even overcoat provides you with the flexibility of matching to whatever climate you are in and allows you to stay focused on the job at hand.

Ask Your Mates

If you are getting a forklift licence, the odds are you work with quite a few people who already have their qualifications. Before you go for your training, you should ask them about anything they found tricky and what they did to overcome it. This can give you a leg up on what to look out for, which in turn will help you pass the test at the end of the course. If they did their training at the same place you are going for your licence, they may even have specific warnings about the layout or the actual forklifts you will practice on, so make sure to double-check where they went. 

The Night Before

The night before you take any sort of test or course can be quite nerve-wracking. Getting a forklift licence is a simple process as long as you are ready and pay attention, so funnel this nervous energy into something productive. Pack yourself a healthy lunch (you may not be able to buy food there), ensure you have plenty of water and get a good night's sleep. Being well-rested and well-fed will always improve your performance, and these elements should not be underestimated.
